This study discovered a new thermocatalytic reaction of NO-to-NH3 synthesis to solve nitric oxide pollution and low NH3 synthesis efficiency. Solid-solution OsxPt1-x/γ-Al2O3 exhibited an outstanding performance in NO-to-NH3 synthesis under mild temperatures and ambient pressure. Os0.1Pt0.9/γ-Al2O3 yielded up to 97% NH3 at 200 °C, with remarkably higher yield and milder conditions than that of the Haber-Bosch process. The high NO-to-NH3 synthesis activities and NH3 yields were attributed to the synergistic effect of ultrafast NO and H2 dissociations.
