Papillary carcinoma and the solitary autonomously functioning nodule of the thyroid
Abstract:
We report three patients with thyrotoxicosis due to solitary autonomously functioning thyroid nodules, which at surgery were found to contain papillary carcinoma. Despite the rarity of this concurrence we suggest that it may be useful to employ fine-needle aspiration cytology in the evaluation of the solitary autonomously functioning thyroid nodules.
