Petal-x Visualization for Lifestyle Change in Patients at Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases: An Evaluation

Abstract:
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading global cause of death and addressing unhealthy lifestyles is essential for reducing CVD risk. Visual explanations, such as the Petal-X dashboard, can support personalized care by improving patients' understanding of health risks and motivating lifestyle changes. This study evaluated whether the Petal-X dashboard, utilizing the SCORE2 model for 10-year CVD risk calculation, promotes lifestyle changes and subsequently reduces CVD risk. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 52 participants in a Slovenian Community Health Centre. After six months, changes in SCORE2 were assessed. The results showed no significant differences between the groups in reducing SCORE2 (χ2 = 0.879; p = 0.348) or other measures between groups. However, the trend suggests SCORE2 visualization may contribute moderately to CVD risk reduction, indicating potential benefits that warrant further study with larger samples and longer follow-up.
