Abstract:
Co-design is an important part of effective software development in digital health. Involving patients and end users throughout the design, development, testing and quality assessment of the digital health tool increases usability and engagement. We discuss how we used this approach while designing and developing a mobile application to support older adults with atrial fibrillation and other long-term health conditions in a randomised controlled trial in 6 European Countries. We discuss the challenges of agreeing requirements in a large consortium of over 20 partners, and the issues around translating the software into 6 different languages. We also demonstrate how we assess the quality of the application to inform continuous improvement and our alignment with agile software development methodologies.
