Abstract:
The 2024 intravenous fluid (IVF) shortage following Hurricane Helene highlighted vulnerabilities in healthcare supply chains. This paper describes a prototype expert system designed to guide clinicians in appropriate IVF use during crises. By integrating clinical guidelines with real-time supply levels, this system could improve patient care while conserving limited resources.
