To achieve zero irretrievable specimen loss, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) developed and piloted a closed-loop specimen tracking IT solution. The Project facilitates electronic records from specimen collection to laboratory acknowledge, and triggers instant alert for potential delay/loss. During the pilot period, the initiative achieved high acceptability among frontline users, and significant effectiveness on optimizing operational efficiency, patient safety and environmentally sustainability.
