    Summary

    Learned helplessness theory suggests noncontingency impairs cognitive control perception. However, this study found that helplessness induction actually improved, not hindered, participants' ability to accurately judge control over outcomes.

    Background:

    • Learned helplessness theory posits that exposure to uncontrollable events creates a 'cognitive deficit', reducing the ability to perceive response-outcome relationships.
