Necrosis and abscessation of placental sites in a Pekingese bitch

An 18-month-old Pekingese bitch aborted 7 foetuses at Day 55 of pregnancy. Necrosis and/or abscessation of all 7 placental sites were found following a panhysterectomy performed 4 days later. Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and a beta-haemolytic Streptococcus sp. were cultured from the vaginal discharge and from a uterine abscess.
