Abstract:
A diode-pumped continuous-wave (CW) orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength (OPDW) Sm: YAlO3 (Sm: YAP) orange laser with the balanced output power (i.e. equal power for both wavelengths) on 4G5/2→ 6H7/2 transition was studied for the first time. We theoretically analyzed the condition of gain-to-loss balance via two intracavity etalons to achieve the OPDW operation, and experimentally demonstrated the OPDW orange laser in a Sm: YAP crystal. At an absorbed pump power of 9.0 W, the total balanced output power at 604 nm in b-polarization and 610 nm in c-polarization were 0.85 W. The corresponding total slope efficiency and optical-to-optical conversion efficiency with respect to the absorbed pump power were 11.4% and 9.4%, respectively. The CW OPDW Sm: YAP orange laser with the balanced output power was desirable for many fields, especially for the development of UV sources.
