Summary

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) commonly spreads to non-regional lymph nodes, bone, liver, and lung. Early detection through imaging in the first two years is recommended for patients with MCC.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the most common sites of distant metastasis in Merkel cell carcinoma.
  • To investigate potential correlations between primary tumor location and metastatic patterns.
  • To inform follow-up strategies for MCC patients.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 100 patients diagnosed with cutaneous MCC between 1988 and 2022.
  • Recording the location of the first detected metastases at diagnosis and during follow-up.
  • Analysis of metastatic sites including lymph nodes, bone, liver, lung, and others.
