Hybrid electrode and alignment material based on PEDOT:PSS for cholesteric liquid crystal films
None:
Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) displays are candidates for reflective displays due to their bistability and structural coloration, enabling energy-efficient and vivid imaging. However, the conventional use of indium-tin-oxide as an electrode material increases costs and limits flexible applications because of its poor mechanical properties. Additionally, the need for a homogeneous alignment layer to provide suitable surface properties for CLCs further raises production expenses. Herein, we utilize PEDOT:PSS as a hybrid electrode and alignment material, eliminating the need for an additional alignment layer. An investigation of the intrinsic surface properties of PEDOT:PSS reveals its compatibility with CLCs, offering excellent electro-optic performance, including high reflectance and low dark-state reflectance. Furthermore, we demonstrate a large-sized, flexible, and bendable CLC film, showcasing its potential for advanced reflective display applications. This approach highlights PEDOT:PSS as a cost-effective and mechanically robust alternative for scalable and versatile CLC displays.
