Low-cost non-contact axial placement and active focusing of optical components
Applied Optics
|August 12, 2025
Abstract:
A low-cost non-contact method for placement of optical elements with or without optical power, as well as opto-mechanical elements along an optical axis, is demonstrated. This approach utilizes a camera mounted on a linear stage to capture images of surface imperfections illuminated by oblique incoherent light. Two variations of the method allow placing elements at nominal distances, while a third variation allows active focusing to account for radius errors in elements with power.
