Compact terahertz TE-pass polarizer with a high-polarized-extinction ratio based on the graphene hybrid plasmonic
Abstract:
A compact, high-performance TE-pass polarizer for the terahertz (THz) band is demonstrated, achieving an ultra-high polarization extinction ratio (PER) and low insertion loss (IL) through a graphene-integrated hybrid plasmonic waveguide (GHPW). By exploiting the transverse graphene-SiO2-Si structure, the undesired TM mode is effectively suppressed while the TE mode is confined with minimal loss. The integration of a wedge-shaped mode converter further enhances TE-mode transmission efficiency. Through systematic optimization of key parameters, including the geometric dimensions of the GHPW and the lengths of the wedge-mode converter and polarization region, the polarizer achieves outstanding performance. At 3 THz, the polarizer achieves a PER of up to 40.33 dB and an ultra-low IL of 0.17 dB. This work provides a high-performance solution for THz polarizers, with significant potential for the development and applications of THz technology.
