Abstract:
Tm3+-doped sesquioxides, Tm:YScO3, and Tm:LuScO3 crystals, were successfully fabricated by using a laser floating zone method. For the first time, continuous-wave laser operation at 2.3 µm on the 3H4 → 3H5 Tm3+ transition of the two crystals was reported. Pumped by a 793 nm fiber-coupled laser diode, the Tm:YScO3 and Tm:LuScO3 lasers generated the maximum continuous-wave laser output power of 665 mW and 872 mW at 2.3 µm with a slope efficiency of 9.5% and 16.1%, respectively.
