The psychometric property testing of creativity disposition scale among basic education students

Creativity disposition encompasses emotional and motivational traits that facilitate creative engagement and contribute to success in innovative endeavors. Despite its significance, limited attention has been given to developing measurement instruments tailored to the basic education context. This study aimed to validate the Creativity Disposition Scale (CDS), specifically designed for use with primary and secondary students. The validation process involved assessments of content validity, reliability, item discrimination, construct, convergent and discrimination validity. An initial group of 50 students was involved in reliability and item discrimination testing prior to the main data collection. The main study included 640 basic education students (Grades 1-12) from OBEC-affiliated primary and secondary schools across all regions of Thailand. A multi-stage sampling method was employed to ensure diversity based on school size and grade level. This main sample was used to assess construct, convergent, and discriminant validity. The finalized instrument comprises 18 items across eight components: openness to new knowledge and experiences; quick perception and reaction; passion for thinking and problem-solving; valuing initiative and aesthetic appreciation; creativity in work and perseverance; creative self-image and idealism; high motivation, energy, and adventurousness; and sensitivity to deep feelings and emotions. Results demonstrated strong model fit (CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99, SRMR = 0.03, RMSEA = 0.02), with factor loadings ranging from 0.67 to 0.92. The CDS also showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88) and acceptable item discrimination (item loadings = 0.45-0.72). These findings support the CDS as a psychometric instrument for assessing creativity disposition in basic education settings. Furthermore, the scale holds potential for cross-cultural adaptation and application in global educational contexts, contributing to promote of creativity in diverse learning environments.
