Assessing the acceptance of palm biometric payment systems: An integration of technology acceptance model and valence

Abstract:
The adoption of biometric payments has emerged to serve as an alternative innovative solution to address limitations of traditional payment methods such as pins on physical cards. This innovation opens security, aiming for stronger and more reliable authentication techniques, especially for secure transactions. This study's main objective was to assess the acceptance of palm biometric payments with the integration of the valence framework and technology acceptance model. The framework included factors such as perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), trust, risks, attitude, and benefits of palm biometric payment systems to assess its influence on behavioral intention (BI) of consumers. A total of 421 valid responses were collected from various of social media platforms, which were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling. The findings revealed that BI has the strongest significant positive influence on acceptance, followed by the significant relationship of PEOU and PU. It was also determined that ATT had a significant effect on the BI of consumers. On the other hand, the findings also revealed that perceived risk did not significantly influence BI, implying that users are likely outweighed by the benefits that the technology may offer rather than the risks. These findings highlighted the significance of trust in having secure transactions in the usage of payment technology, especially biometric authentication. In line, it is suggested that addressing privacy and security concerns are essential in enhancing users' trust and acceptance on the technology. This study significantly contributes by providing insights on enhancing security transactions especially on the usage of palm biometric payment technologies.
