    Summary

    Annulate lamellae (AL) are rare structures found in human prostate cancer cells, not in benign or normal tissues. These structures appear to be temporary transitional forms between the nuclear membrane and the endoplasmic reticulum.

    Background:

    • Annulate lamellae (AL) are complex membrane structures observed in various cell types.
    • Their presence and significance in human prostatic tissues, particularly in cancer, remain underexplored.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the occurrence and ultrastructural characteristics of annulate lamellae in human prostatic carcinoma.
    • To compare the presence of AL in cancerous versus benign and normal prostatic tissues.

    • Electron microscopy was used to examine tissue samples.
    • Human prostatic tissues from carcinoma, benign hyperplasia, and normal cases were analyzed.

    • AL likely represent transient structures involved in the transformation between the nuclear membrane and the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
