Abstract:
Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) is a rare congenital brain malformation characterized by incomplete formation of the cerebellar vermis and cystic dilation of the fourth ventricle, with a milder form known as the Dandy-Walker variant (DWV) that is associated with better clinical outcomes. We present the case of a 6-year-old female with a history of repaired atrial septal defect (ASD) and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), who was subsequently diagnosed with DWV and also suffers from asthma. Despite initial developmental delays, the patient has shown significant progress in both walking and speech, underscoring the wide range of potential outcomes. This case highlights the critical importance of early and accurate diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care for patients with complex congenital conditions. Such tailored and coordinated interventions can lead to substantial developmental gains and improved long-term quality of life.
