Background:

  • Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent issue among golfers, particularly affecting adolescent players.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of a Golfer's Low Back Pain Exercise Prevention (GLEP) program in reducing LBP incidence among adolescent golfers.
  • To assess the impact of the GLEP program on the number of LBP incidents and associated movement patterns during the golf swing.

Main Methods:

  • A double-blind, randomized controlled trial involving 45 high-school golfers (mean age 16.0 years).
  • Participants were assigned to either the GLEP intervention group (n=23) or a Sham control group (n=22) for 12 weeks.
  • Primary outcomes included the number of individuals with LBP and total LBP incidents; secondary outcomes focused on trunk motion and swing phase during LBP episodes. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests and Poisson regression.

  • The 12-week Golfer's Low Back Pain Exercise Prevention (GLEP) program effectively reduced the incidence of low back pain among adolescent golfers.
  • Regular implementation of the GLEP program is advisable for high-school golfers to prevent low back pain.
  • The findings support the integration of targeted exercise interventions into golf training regimens for young athletes.
