Background:
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) has been shown to be a safe and effective method for lowering intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma. This study aims to analyze research trends in glaucoma management using SLT through a bibliometric analysis.
Methods:
The data for the study were gathered from the Web of Science Core Collection. We employed VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) to analyze and visualize information concerning countries, institutions, journals, and co-cited journals, journal co-citations, funding agencies, and keywords.
Results:
As of November 2024, a total of 386 original and review articles were included. The USA had the highest number of relevant publications, totaling 129. The University of Hong Kong was the leading institution with 15 publications. The Journal of Glaucoma (IF = 2.0) ranked first with 58 articles published and being the most cited journal. The United States Department of Health and Human Services was the top funding institution. The most frequently used keywords, in descending order, were "selective laser trabeculoplasty," "glaucoma," "intraocular pressure," "ocular hypertension," and "open-angle glaucoma."
Conclusion:
The research demonstrates SLT efficacy in reducing intraocular pressure and controlling open-angle glaucoma as a non-invasive therapeutic alternative to eye drops. This thorough overview provides important insights and highlights existing research trends.
