Background:

Scaphoid fractures are common and difficult injuries to manage.
The mini-open dorsal approach provides enhanced visualization for scaphoid fracture fixation.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the technique of the mini-open dorsal approach for scaphoid fracture fixation.
To highlight the advantages of improved visualization and accurate screw placement compared to other methods.

Main Methods:

A small longitudinal incision is made over the dorsal radiocarpal joint.
Dissection proceeds to the extensor retinaculum, with careful retraction of the extensor digitorum communis and extensor pollicis longus tendons.
A capsulotomy allows visualization of the scaphoid, followed by fracture reduction and screw fixation.

Main Results:

The mini-open dorsal approach allows for precise fracture reduction and screw placement.
Studies indicate excellent radiographic and functional results with this technique.
It offers comparable complication rates to percutaneous dorsal approaches but with superior visualization.
