[Angiocinematography of cerebral circulatory disturbances using angiografin (author's transl)]
Insights
Cerebrovascular diseases significantly reduce middle cerebral artery blood flow. Angiocinematography offers a more accurate assessment of cerebral circulation time compared to traditional methods.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Radiology
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Assessing cerebral blood flow is crucial for diagnosing cerebrovascular diseases.
- Traditional methods for determining cerebral circulation time may have limitations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine arterial flow rate in middle cerebral artery branches.
- To compare angiocinematography with conventional methods for assessing cerebral circulation.
Main Methods:
- Angiocinematography was used to measure arterial flow rate in 37 hemispheres.
- Investigated 24 patients, including 10 with cerebrovascular diseases.
- Evaluated the role of contrast media, specifically Angiografin.
Main Results:
- Arterial flow rate was significantly reduced in patients with cerebrovascular diseases.
- Angiocinematography provided detailed flow rate data.
Conclusions:
- Cerebrovascular diseases are associated with decreased middle cerebral artery flow.
- Angiocinematography is a valuable tool for assessing cerebral circulation and may be superior to conventional methods.
Abstract:
The arterial flow rate in the three superficial groups of branches of the middle cerebral artery was determined angiocinematographically in 37 hemispheres of 24 patients. In 10 hemispheres of patients with cerebrovascular diseases the arterial flow rate in the corresponding group of branches was lowered to a statistically significant extent. The importance of the choice of contrast medium is emphasized and that used in our investigations, Angiografin, dealt with in more detail. The diagnostic value of conventional determination of cerebral circulation time from serial angiograms is questioned and compared with the results of angiocinematographic investigation.
