The review addresses an urgent problem of suicide in adolescents. The prevalence of suicidal behavior in adolescents worldwide and In Russia is analyzed, and its main causes are identified. It is believed that the basis for suicidal activity is primarily psychopathological disorders, both as part of established psychiatric diseases and at the prodromal stage of mental disorders, when the first transient and nonspecific symptoms appear. When triggered by external causes, such a pathological basis easily leads to the adolescent's suicidal readiness, which explains the common discrepancy between the insignificance of provoking factors and the severity of the consequences of suicidal activity. It determines the need for early recognition of the first symptoms of future mental illness and the establishment of their role in the development of suicidal behavior in adolescents.
