Abstract:
The past decades have witnessed growing environmental concerns caused by traditional pesticide methods. As a result, there has been increased interest in developing a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach characterized by high efficacy and low risk to the environment and human health. MXenes, a growing two-dimensional (2D) layered nanomaterial, have offered a new avenue in attaining sustainable pesticides by acting as either carriers to develop novel drug delivery systems, sensors for the determination of residual pesticides in the environment or crops, or catalysts/adsorbents to remove pesticides from the environment. Consequently, the exploration of MXene-based platforms for sustainable pesticides has received worldwide attention. The current study offers an in-depth assessment of MXene-based pesticide delivery systems, electrochemical sensors for detecting pesticides, and adsorptive/catalytic elimination of residual pesticides in the environment/crops. This study shows that MXene-based materials can achieve the effectual and sustainable consumption of pesticides, thereby reducing environmental and human harm.
