Abstract:
Perception of pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) by plants can trigger local and systemic responses in plants. DORN1 (Does not Respond to Nucleotides 1, the lectin receptor kinase I.9) is known as the receptor of extracellular ATP (eATP) of plants and plays important roles in the regulation of the responses of plants to environmental stimulation. The present work showed that local treatment of a single leaf of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) seedlings with flg22 can lead to increase of eATP level in the directly-treated leaf and in the systemic leaves. By the RNA interference of eATP receptor DORN1, it was found that the RNA interference of dorn1 can reduce and disrupt the enhancement of the local and systemic [Ca2+]cyt levels, which was induced by local treatment with flg22. And, local and systemic stomatal closure responses to local treatment of flg22 were also weakened by the RNA interference of dorn1. These observations suggest that the activation of local and systemic calcium and stomatal closure responses by flg22 could be regulated by eATP receptor DORN1. We believe that this study will help to expand the current knowledge on the role of eATP in plants.
