The targeted cancer therapies, also known as “molecular targeted therapies,” take advantage of the molecular and genetic differences between the cancer cells and the normal cells. Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess circulating tumor cell (CTC) dynamics in rectal cancer patients undergoing multimodal treatment.
  • To evaluate the role of CTCs in guiding therapeutic decisions for rectal cancer.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective observational study of 56 rectal adenocarcinoma patients.
  • Blood samples analyzed for CTCs using the CytoTrack CT11™ system.
  • Patients received either primary surgery or neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery.
