This study computationally confirms the existence of nitrosilanes, a class of compounds previously unknown. While their nitrite isomers are recognized, the identity of nitrosilanes is now established through rigorous theoretical verification.
Area of Science:
- Inorganic chemistry
- Computational chemistry
- Organosilicon chemistry
Background:
- Nitrosilanes, analogous to nitro-metalloids, are largely uncharacterized.
- The nitrite isomers of these compounds are known and utilized as reagents.
- Existing research on nitritosilanes primarily investigates their reactivity, leaving their fundamental existence in question.
Purpose of the Study:
- To computationally investigate the potential existence of nitrosilanes.
- To provide theoretical confirmation for the existence of nitritosilanes.
Main Methods:
- Computational verification of nitrosilane structures and stability.
- Theoretical analysis of bonding and electronic properties.
Main Results:
- Full computational confirmation for the existence of nitrosilanes.
- Established the theoretical basis for nitrosilane stability and properties.
Conclusions:
- Nitrosilanes are confirmed to exist as theoretically viable chemical entities.
- This work resolves doubts regarding the identity and existence of nitrosilanes, opening avenues for future research.

The nitrous acid is unstable. Hence, it is formed in situ from a solution of sodium nitrite and cold aqueous acids such as hydrochloric or sulfuric acid. In an acidic solution, the –OH group of nitrous acid undergoes protonation to give oxonium ion, followed by...
