[Female doctors in the niche field of hematology]

Although the proportion of female doctors in Japan has increased, the proportion of female managers remains barely changed at less than 10%. This review discusses the lack of female leaders from the perspective of the impacts of society and organizations on individuals. In order for women to demonstrate leadership, they need to be prepared to continue working and to become leaders themselves. They must also reduce gender-related stress, counter the threat of stereotypes, and increase their sense of self-efficacy. Efforts to improve these issues and increase self-efficacy are meaningful not only for female doctors but also for male doctors. Incorporating diverse opinions and perspectives should make organizations more successful at solving problems creatively and effectively.
