Abstract:
This study presents a simple method for embedding inorganic-organic hybrid lead halide perovskite (CH3NH3)PbX3 (X = Cl, Br, or I) nanocrystals (NCs) into the interlayer spaces of the layered polysilicate kenyaite. (CH3NH3)PbX3 NC-embedded kenyaite composites (MPX@kenyaite) were synthesized by immersing Pb2+-containing kenyaite in (CH3NH3)X-containing 2-propanol. According to X-ray diffraction, small-angle X-ray scattering, and scanning transmission electron microscopy analyses, (CH3NH3)PbX3 NCs with diameters of 5.8 ± 1.3 nm are well-dispersed within the kenyaite interlayers in MPX@kenyaite, which exhibit photoluminescence with excellent color saturation, significantly longer decay lifetimes than colloidal NCs, and excellent solvent resistance to water and ethanol, indicating that the kenyaite matrix effectively passivates the embedded NCs, significantly enhancing their luminescence performance and stability in protic solvents. The proposed process, which is simpler than conventional methods for producing core-shell structures, making it feasible for large-scale production and adaptable for manufacturing hybrid materials that incorporate perovskite NCs into other layered materials, could revolutionize the synthesis of high-performance composite materials.
