Self-harm surveillance: an analysis of ICD-10-CM code R45.88, non-suicidal self-harm, with no co-occurring injury

Summary

This study found that patients coded for non-suicidal self-harm (R45.88) without injury were significantly younger. Including all R45.88 cases improves self-harm surveillance and understanding of affected populations.
