Can malaria rapid diagnostic tests be used to detect simian malaria?

Human malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) show variable performance for simian malaria. Sensitivity improves with higher parasite densities, with some RDTs exceeding 90% detection for key Plasmodium species in non-human primates.
