    Area of Science:

    • Reproductive Medicine
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Gynecology

    Background:

    • Genital tuberculosis is a significant cause of female infertility.
    • Histopathological evidence confirms tuberculosis in the reproductive organs.
    • Limited treatment options exist for infertility stemming from genital TB.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of in vitro fertilization (IVF) for treating infertility in women with genital tuberculosis.
    • To assess pregnancy and delivery rates following IVF in this specific patient group.

    Main Methods:

    • Twenty women with histologically confirmed genital tuberculosis underwent 49 IVF attempts.
    • Preliminary evaluations included laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
    • Common lesions identified were tuberculous salpingitis, endometritis, and pelvic peritoneal tuberculosis.

    Main Results:

    • Five successful deliveries and one ongoing pregnancy were achieved.
    • The study involved 49 in vitro fertilization attempts in 20 women.
    • Tuberculous salpingitis was the most frequent histopathological finding.

    Conclusions:

    • In vitro fertilization (IVF) is currently the primary and most effective treatment for infertility associated with genital tuberculosis.
    • IVF demonstrates promising outcomes for women with reproductive challenges due to tuberculosis.
