Area of Science:

  • Psychology
  • Occupational Health
  • Inclusion Studies

Background:

  • Workplace well-being initiatives often overlook employees with intellectual disabilities (IDs).
  • Positive psychological interventions require adaptation for diverse employee needs, including those with IDs.
  • Stress and well-being are critical factors in heterogeneous work environments.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To adapt and implement a positive psychological intervention based on the Emotional Styles model.
  • To improve well-being and reduce stress in employees with and without intellectual disabilities (IDs).
  • To evaluate the intervention's effectiveness and acceptability in a diverse workplace.

Main Methods:

  • A longitudinal study involving 45 employees (12 with IDs) in a social foundation.
  • A six-week intervention program based on Davidson's six emotional dimensions, adapted using Easy Read strategies and considering COVID-19.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements observed in outlook, resilience, engagement, and relationships.
  • Reduction in negative emotions noted, with greater effects in non-ID participants.
  • Context sensibility improved in the ID group, and overall satisfaction was high (93%).

Conclusions:

  • The adapted intervention effectively enhances emotional well-being in heterogeneous workplaces.
  • The study supports the implementation of inclusive positive psychology practices.
  • The intervention demonstrates feasibility and positive outcomes for employees with and without intellectual disabilities.
