miR164-targets involved in plant biological processes and stress response: A review

Abstract:
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs 18-24 nt in length that negatively regulate their target genes, mainly through post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS). To date, the role of miRNAs in plant development and defense against adverse environments has been widely explored. In this review, we describe the story of miR164 from its identification to its origin, conserved and evolutionary features, and illustrate its contribution to the mechanism of regulating target genes and its role in regulating plant growth and development, as well as its response to adversity, among others. Based on this new doors are opened for a comprehensive understanding of miR164 and detailed functions.
