Comparing the Distressed Communities Index and Area Deprivation Index in Predicting Firearm-Related Emergency

The Distressed Communities Index (DCI) and Area Deprivation Index (ADI) are comparable in predicting neighborhood risk for firearm-related emergency department visits. Both indices identified the most deprived areas as having the highest incidence of these injuries.

- The DCI offers a viable alternative to the traditional ADI for assessing neighborhood-level risk factors in firearm injury research and prevention.
