Noncovalent molecular interactions, which are crucial for reaction mechanisms and material properties, were investigated using the states of noble gases and led to a two-parameter equation. This equation was applied to solvent effects in chemistry, even in complex mixtures. Further reaching molecular interactions up to 5 nm were covered by energy transfer processes in multichromophoric systems and were even found over far distances. Selected unexpected reactions were presented, in which the knowledge of various medium effects contributes to our understanding.
