    Computed tomography (CT) is a useful tool for assessing bronchiectasis distribution in lung lobes. While CT effectively identifies cystic disease, it struggles to differentiate between cylindrical and varicose types.

    Background:

    • Bronchiectasis is a chronic lung condition characterized by irreversible airway dilation.
    • Accurate assessment of bronchiectasis distribution is crucial for patient management and treatment planning.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effectiveness of computed tomography (CT) in assessing the lobar distribution of bronchiectasis.
    • To compare CT findings with bronchography in patients with suspected bronchiectasis.

    Main Methods:

    • Computed tomography (CT) and bronchography were performed on 15 lungs from eight patients.
    • Lobar and segmental distribution of bronchiectasis was analyzed and compared between the two imaging modalities.

    Main Results:

    • Both CT and bronchography identified bronchiectasis in 22 out of 36 evaluated lobes.
    • CT accurately identified cystic bronchiectasis but could not differentiate between cylindrical and varicose types.
    • Agreement between CT and bronchography for segmental localization was observed in 116 out of 130 segments.

    Conclusions:

    • Modern high-resolution CT is a valuable method for determining the lobar distribution of bronchiectasis.
    • CT provides a useful, non-invasive alternative for assessing bronchiectasis extent, complementing bronchography.
