Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a crucial diagnostic procedure in gynecology.
Traditional methods like the Schultze-instrument have limitations.

Purpose:

To evaluate the efficacy and advantages of using a Foley-catheter for hysterosalpingography.
To compare the Foley-catheter method with the conventional Schultze-instrument.

Summary:

A study of 500 hysterosalpingographies compared the Foley-catheter method with the Schultze-instrument during cyclic menstrual bleeding.
The Foley-catheter technique demonstrated simplicity, atraumatic application, and painless procedure.
It prevented contrast material reflux, provided clear visualization of internal genital structures in situ, and allowed detailed observation of the internal os and cervical canal using an x-ray amplifier.

Impact:

The Foley-catheter method simplifies hydrotubations, especially after fallopian tube plastic surgery.
This technique is not suitable for cases of Asherman's syndrome due to uterine cavity narrowing.
