Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between preexisting hypothyroidism and adverse health outcomes following bariatric surgery (BS).
  • To compare outcomes in patients with and without hypothyroidism undergoing BS.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Global Collaborative Network database.
  • Propensity score matching was used to compare patients with obesity who underwent BS with and without hypothyroidism.

Main Results:

  • Patients with hypothyroidism showed increased short-term risks of readmission, incisional hernia, and biliary disease.
