Abstract:
Non-immune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) is a complex perinatal diagnosis with diverse and often idiopathic causes, including impaired lymphatic drainage and compromised venous return. We present the case of a newborn with large bilateral pleural effusions who was subsequently found to have a hypoplastic superior vena cava (SVC). Initially treated with thoracentesis and dietary changes, the infant's symptoms persisted. Follow-up imaging confirmed ongoing SVC narrowing, which was successfully treated with a stent. This case underscores the importance of identifying non-traditional causes of NIHF.

Fetal Circulation
Two umbilical arteries transport blood from the fetus to the placenta. At the placenta, the blood absorbs oxygen and nutrients while simultaneously eliminating waste products. This oxygen-enriched and nutrient-rich blood then returns to the fetus through one...

Overview of Systemic Veins
The coronary sinus, the heart's principal vein, resides in the coronary sulcus on the heart's posterior aspect. This broad venous channel receives nearly all venous blood from the myocardium, the heart muscle. It is fed by three primary veins: the great cardiac vein, the...
