A novel benzoxazoles fluorescent probe based on ESIPT for Zn2+ detection

A novel excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) fluorescence probe, 4-acetamido-2-(benzo[d]oxazol-2-yl)phenyl picolinate (MT) of benzoxazoles, was synthesized from aminosalicylic acid and o-aminophenol. Its structure was characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy and NMR analysis. The spectral analysis demonstrated that the probe exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity toward Zn2+ in a DMSO:H2O = 4:6 (v/v) solution, with a detection limit of 0.09 μmol/L. Job's plot experiment revealed a complex ratio of 2:1 between probe and Zn2+. Finally, the external standard addition method was employed to determine the concentration of Zn2+ in actual water samples.
