Background:
This study investigated the association between surgical treatment of laryngeal cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, comparing CVD mortality risk between surgery and no-surgery groups.
Methods:
We extracted patients with laryngeal cancer from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database and conducted an evaluation of these patients. Patients and study characteristics were taken into account when conducting subgroup analyses.
Results:
A total of 38,600 laryngeal cancer patients were included in our study, among whom 22,547 died and 3373 died specifically from CVDs. Notably, we found that within specific subgroups, such as individuals aged ≥40 years; both sexes; patients diagnosed between 2005 and 2019; Black or White patients; those with tumors in the supraglottis, subglottis, and not otherwise specified; grade I and II tumors; localized and distant stages; and regardless of chemotherapy or radiation therapy, surgery use was associated with a lower CVD mortality risk. This finding was consistent across various marital statuses and income levels.
Conclusions:
No-surgery management correlated with significantly elevated CVD mortality risk compared with surgery treatment.
