Primary Healthcare Services

1.9K
Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.

Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

2.9K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

381
Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.
Participant Modeling
Participant modeling involves therapists demonstrating calm and effective behaviors in...

Specialized care settings or centers are situated in convenient locations within the community and offer care to a specific group or population. They consist of daycare facilities, mental health facilities, rural health facilities, educational institutions, industries, shelters for the homeless, and rehabilitation facilities.

Area of Science:

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Primary Care Pediatrics
  • Mental Health Services Research

Background:

  • Child psychiatry access programs (CPAPs) aim to bridge the mental health treatment gap.
  • CPAPs offer training, consultation, and referral support to primary care providers (PCPs).
  • Limited research exists on how CPAP usage influences PCP practice changes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine PCPs' perceptions of CPAP services.
  • To understand how CPAP usage influences PCP practice behaviors and child mental health care.

Main Methods:

  • Qualitative study using semistructured interviews with 37 PCPs.
  • Purposive sampling of frequent, moderate, and infrequent CPAP users.
  • Content analysis of interview transcripts to identify practice changes.

Main Results:

  • PCPs utilized CPAPs primarily for medication management and patient referrals.
  • All providers reported practice changes, with frequent users showing increased confidence in mental health care.
  • Providers expressed positive attitudes towards CPAP consultations.

Conclusions:

  • PCPs find CPAP services beneficial for addressing child mental health needs.
  • Reported practice changes occurred irrespective of CPAP usage frequency.
  • CPAP participation appears to enhance PCP practice in child mental health.
