Purpose of the Study:

  • Inclusion of asymptomatic (≥60-99%) and symptomatic (≥50-99%) carotid artery stenosis.
  • Evaluation of 30-day outcomes (mortality, MI, stroke, bleeding, infection, nerve injury) and restenosis.

Main Results:

  • 70% male patients; 14 symptomatic vs. 6 asymptomatic.
  • One 30-day mortality (5%) and one 30-day stroke (5%) in symptomatic patients.
  • 20% cranial nerve injury rate (recurrent laryngeal nerve most common); 3 patients developed restenosis.

Conclusions:

  • CEA uptake in Malaysia is currently low.
  • Sharing outcome data can improve awareness and early referral for carotid stenosis.
  • Long-term outcome data is crucial for future CEA implementation.
