ErbB3-binding protein 1 (Ebp1) p48 is elevated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and promotes tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting Ebp1 p48 may offer a new therapeutic strategy for NSCLC patients.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Cancer Research
Background:
- Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) poses a significant global health challenge.
- The role of ErbB3-binding protein 1 (Ebp1) p48 in NSCLC pathogenesis is not fully understood.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the expression and function of Ebp1 p48 in NSCLC.
- To determine the potential of Ebp1 p48 as a therapeutic target and biomarker in NSCLC.
Main Methods:
- Comparative analysis of Ebp1 expression in normal lung and NSCLC tissues using databases and immunohistochemistry.
- Functional assays including cell growth, migration, invasion, and cell cycle analysis after Ebp1 p48 knockdown in NSCLC cell lines.
- In vivo studies and Western blot analysis to assess tumor growth, metastasis, EMT, and signaling pathways.
Main Results:
- NSCLC tissues exhibit significantly higher Ebp1 p48 expression compared to normal lung tissues.
- Ebp1 p48 expression correlates with advanced pathological grade, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, and poorer overall survival.
- Knockdown of Ebp1 p48 suppressed tumor cell growth, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and reduced PI3K/Akt phosphorylation.
Conclusions:
- Ebp1 p48 promotes NSCLC progression by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
- Ebp1 p48 represents a promising therapeutic target and predictive biomarker for NSCLC.
