Orbital fungal infections are initially misdiagnosed, typically only considered in immunocompromised patients, and may be empirically treated with systemic corticosteroids-potentially exacerbating disease progression. The authors report the third case described in medical literature of Cryptococcus neoformans invading the orbit in an immunocompetent host and the first in a child with bilateral presentation.
