Background:

  • Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are frequent complications after endovascular procedures.
  • Risk factors for PONV in patients undergoing endovascular therapy under monitored anesthesia care (MAC) are not well understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify and analyze the risk factors associated with PONV in patients undergoing endovascular interventional therapy.
  • To characterize specific patient and procedural elements that contribute to PONV development.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study involving 319 patients undergoing endovascular therapy.
  • Comparison of clinical and procedural characteristics between patients with PONV (cases) and those without (controls).
  • Multivariate logistic regression analysis to determine significant risk factors for PONV.

  • Female sex, allergic history, renal insufficiency, embolization, and high iodine contrast agent volume are significant predictors of PONV following endovascular interventions.
  • These findings can inform targeted PONV prophylaxis strategies for high-risk patients undergoing endovascular procedures.
  • Further research may explore specific mechanisms linking these factors to PONV in this patient population.
