Evaluation of vaccination coverage in Brazilian regions from 2000 to 2022

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a drop in vaccination coverage, which favors the reintroduction of vaccine-preventable diseases that are already being eliminated. The objective of this study is to evaluate vaccination coverage in Brazil from 2000 to 2022. This is an ecological time-trend study based on secondary data of individuals aged 0 to over 60 years in Brazil and its regions. Joinpoint regression was used to identify significant changes in trends over time. The dependent variable was general vaccination coverage, and the independent variables included geographic region and year, enabling analysis of temporal and spatial patterns. In the initial years of the study, the results showed global vaccination coverage parameters in Brazil that were lower than those recommended by the Ministry of Health, estimated at values greater than or equal to 90%. The findings highlight the need for strengthening vaccination strategies and public health policies to restore trust in immunization programs. Future research should explore barriers to coverage and assess the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on vaccination trends in Brazil.
