Abstract:
This study initially focuses on the fractionation of a melanoidin-like product (MLP) from sugarcane molasses and its antioxidant properties. The radical scavenging activities of the fractionated MLP were evaluated based on methanol concentration used during fractionation. Higher methanol concentrations enhanced the antioxidant capacity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide anion radicals. Additionally, a phytodesalination experiment using oilseed rape was conducted under varying MLP, NaCl, and artificial seawater concentrations. Results showed that the oilseed rape increased superoxide dismutase activity under salt stress, which was further enhanced by MLP. Under seawater-supplemented conditions, the root K levels significantly increased with MLP, suggesting improved salt stress adaptation. These findings indicate that MLP not only exhibits strong antioxidant properties but also aids in phytodesalination. The combined application of MLP and phytodesalination presents a promising remediation strategy for salt-affected soils, particularly in areas impacted by tsunamis, offering an eco-friendly solution for soil recovery.
