Abstract:
The "Complex Wounds in Ectodermal Dysplasias: Translating Discovery to Therapy" conference aimed to accelerate the development of novel treatments for complex wounds in ectodermal dysplasias. The conference brought together leading experts in keratinocyte biology, wound healing, and clinical care to explore the mechanisms underlying delayed wound healing and identify strategies to improve patient outcomes (conference participants; Table S1). The meeting utilized a think-tank format, fostering collaborative discussions and brainstorming in breakout groups. The participants identified high-priority research areas including mechanisms underlying regionalization of skin erosions, delayed wound healing, genetic modifiers, and the role of inflammation in ongoing skin pathology. Participants also emphasized the importance of expanding interdisciplinary collaborations and establishing an international registry to collect and analyze patient genotype and phenotype data. The conference highlighted the critical importance of continued collaboration between patients, clinicians, and scientists to drive the development of novel treatment strategies for these complex conditions.
